Introduction#
In the past, transferring a Google Voice (GV) number was relatively simple; you just needed to maintain the outgoing and receiving Google accounts in a U.S. IP environment for a period of time. However, recently Google has adjusted the rules, requiring both the outgoing and receiving Google accounts to be from the U.S. region in order to perform number migration.
Solution#
Initially, the blogger thought it was due to insufficient account maintenance time, so they maintained both Google accounts in a U.S. IP environment for over a year. During this time, they attempted to transfer the GV number multiple times, but the receiving account always prompted "The number transfer cannot be completed for some reason."
After the most recent failed attempt, I checked the regional settings of the receiving Google account and found that it was not set to the U.S. region. Therefore, I manually requested to change the region of that account, selecting the reason "I live here." A few hours later, I received an approval email, and the account region was successfully changed to New York, USA. (For specific operations, refer to the tutorial "Changing the Region of a Google Account".)
Subsequently, I attempted to transfer the GV number again, and this time the number was smoothly migrated from the old Google account to the new Google account.
